Vale signs $7bln deal with authorities for Brumadinho reparations

Brazil-based miner Vale has reached a settlement with local prosecutors to pay 37.7 billion Reais ($7.03 billion) in reparations for the deadly disaster that hit the city of Brumadinho in January 2019, it said on Thursday February 4.

The agreement was signed with the Minas Gerais public defender and the Minas Gerais state prosecutor's office, and mediated by a court of Justice.
The deal was signed after intense negotiations with prosecutors and other authorities about the value and scope of reparations to be paid.
