Turkish steelmakers are now paying increased prices for deep-sea ferrous scrap cargos from the United States while the ongoing global fight to secure material continues to push deals higher.
Export prices for an 80:20 mix of No1 and No2 heavy melting scrap and for shredded scrap have now risen by up to $22 per tonne and $25 per tonne respectively on a cfr basis since the last-reported sale made on December 24, 2020. An East Coast exporter sold a cargo containing HMS 1&2 (80:20) priced at $495 per tonne cfr and shredded scrap at $503 per tonne cfr, Fastmarkets learned on Wednesday January 6.
