UK consortium formed to develop EV solid-state batteries

Seven UK-based organizations have joined forces to set up a consortium to develop solid-state battery technology for automotive applications, the members said on Friday August 20.

Specialty chemicals company Johnson Matthey and Britishvolt, a UK-based investor in lithium-ion battery cells which began a long-term strategic partnership with Glencore this week, have joined the consortium.
The other members are the Faraday Institution, an independent body for research into electrochemical storage; Oxford University; the University of Warwick; E+R (Emerson & Renwick), a manufacturer of production machinery; and the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre.
