TURKEY FLAT STEEL: Weak post-holiday demand keeps domestic, export prices mostly stable [CORRECTED]

Flat steel prices in the Turkish domestic and export market were mostly unchanged in the first full week of 2021 after the festive holidays, while local producers were offering material with long lead times, which buyers were hesitant to accept, sources told Fastmarkets.

Market activity was slow during the week to Friday January 8 because it was the first week of 2021 and some countries were not yet back from their Christmas holidays.
Local producers were offering hot-rolled coil for April production while buyers were opting to wait for global markets to fully return to business before committing to material with a three-month lead time, sources said.
Cold-rolled coil producers in Turkey are heard to be offering the product for late February production at the earliest, sources said.
Fastmarkets' weekly price assessment for steel hot-rolled coil, domestic, exw Turkey was $810-820 per tonne on January 8, rising from $800-810 per tonne on December 31.
