PRICING NOTICE: Extension of consultation on proposed discontinuation of Argentina steel assessments

September 09, 2020 / www.metalbulletin.com / Article Link

Fastmarkets is extending the consultation period for discontinuation of four steel-sector price assessments in Argentina following a long period of low liquidity and an inactive spot market.

The prices proposed for discontinuation are as follows:
- MB-STE-0003 Steel hot-rolled coil, monthly assessment, domestic, exw Argentina, $ per tonne
- MB-STE-0001 Steel cold-rolled coil, monthly assessment, domestic, exw Argentina, $ per tonne
- MB-STE-0002 Steel hot-dipped galvanized coil, monthly assessment, domestic, exw Argentina, $ per tonne
- MB-STE-0196 Steel reinforcing bar (rebar), domestic, monthly assessment, exw Argentina, $ per tonne
These prices have been published by Fastmarkets since June 2013, but over the past year liquidity has dried up with the Argentinian economy in crisis. The steel supply chain in the country was small to begin with, and has consolidated further while the economy has struggled, making data-collection challenging.
The consultation period, which began on July 14 and was originally set to end on September 8, has been extended to Tuesday October 6 to allow for additional feedback. Changes will take place, subject to market feedback, from Friday October 9.
To provide feedback on these prices, please contact pricing@fastmarkets.com. Please add the subject heading 'FAO: Thorsten Schier, Felipe Peroni re: Argentina steel prices.'
