Price spread widens further for European ferro-chrome

The price spread for Europe-origin high-carbon ferro-chrome widened by a couple of cents per lb to $0.17 per lb in the week ended Friday May 1.

This came after deals were reported at higher prices following the increase in the ferro-chrome and charge chrome benchmark for shipments in the second quarter of 2020. The gap was $0.20 per lb between the highest and lowest reported deal prices in the week.
The low-carbon ferro-chrome price showed a similar performance, with the spread widening to $0.21 per lb in reported deals. The gap between the top and bottom reported deals was $0.24 per lb.
The assessment followed news that Turkish integrated bulk alloy producer Eti Elektrometalurji (Etimet) has slashed production by half in response to demand being reduced by the measures used internationally to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
