TIMMINS - Ontario's government is working for the people of Timmins by investing more than $780,000 in innovative research and four local manufacturing companies, creating 12 jobs.
Today, Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, on behalf of Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines, was at The Bucket Shop Inc., a manufacturer of custom and refurbished mining equipment, to make the announcement.
"Promoting business expansion and the development of new technologies ensures a competitive and innovative manufacturing sector," said Minister Fedeli. "Our government is bringing investments to communities across the North, sending a signal to the world that Northern Ontario is open for business and open for jobs."
Investments made through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) include:
$500,000 for The Bucket Shop Inc. to build prototypes of three new mining products and to bring those products to market; the new products will make buckets and loaders, used to move and excavate rock, last longer and help improve productivity. $52,000 for Conveyors Plus Ltd. to develop an improved conveyor belt alignment system. $28,813 for Sewn Home to establish an industrial sewing and manufacturing operation for canvas products. $8,313 for Philip Barton to establish a company that will develop custom mobile applications and hosting services for business.The Province is also investing $191,466 in Northern College's Mining Centric Research Innovation Hub through the Ontario Research Fund to help the college conduct mining focused research and provide research and development opportunities that benefit the Northern economy.
