More Retail Earnings and Jobless Claims Ahead

Calendar 2Weekly jobless claims will be at the forefront once again

May ends with a week packed of economic reports and earnings, although the window to squeeze everything in is tightened by Memorial Day on Monday. As the recent past has shown, investors will be glued to their screens on Thursday as another weekly jobless claims report comes out. Additionally, the last week of the month will feature a revised gross domestic product (GDP) reading for the second quarter and inflation data. There's still some earnings stragglers ready to step up to the plate too,including retailers AutoZone (AZO), Canada Goose (GOOS), and Ulta Beauty (ULTA) all checking in.

Below is a brief list of some key market events and a few high-profile earnings releases scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings and economic dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

Markets will be closedon Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.

Tuesday, May 26 will bring the Chicago Fed national activity index, Case-Shiller home price index, and the FHFA home price index. Data on consumer confidence and new home sales will also come in. AZO and Lumber Liquidators (LL) will enter the earnings confessional.

Slowing down, Wednesday, May 27 will have just the Beige book checking in. The earnings docket is full; GOOS, HP Inc (HPQ), NetApp (NTAP), Ralph Lauren (RL), PVH (PVH), Toll Brothers (TOL), and Workday (WDAY) will all report.

Thursday, May 28, features the sought-after weekly jobless claims, the GDP estimate, durable goods orders, and core capital goods data all being reported. Another packed day for earnings, a docket filled with big retail names is on the books. Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF), Canadian Solar (CSIQ), Costco, Dell (DELL), Dollar General (DG), Dollar Tree (DLTR), GameStop (GME), Marvell Technology (MRVL), Nordstrom (JWN), Salesforce.com (CRM), and ULTA will chime in.

Closing out the week and month on busy note, Friday, May 29 is headlined by personal income, consumer spending, and core inflation data. The Chicago purchasing managers index (PMI) and the consumer sentiment index also reports. As far as earnings, Big Lots (BIG) will report.
