LIVE FUTURES REPORT 07/01: LME nickel price breaches $18,000/t; copper, zinc continue higher

The three-month nickel price on the London Metals Exchange crossed $18,000 per tonne on the morning of Thursday January 7 and copper continued to stride above $8,000 per tonne in a broadly positive morning for the complex.

Nickel's price touched $18,190 per tonne during early trading, the first time the metal has crossed $18,000 per tonne since September 13, 2019, and a 2.3% gain on Wednesday's 5pm closing price. By 9am, the price retreated slightly to $17,910 per tonne, a 0.8% gain on its Wednesday 5pm closing price of $17,773 per tonne. Meanwhile, zinc's three-month price was at $2,869.50 per tonne shortly after 9am, a slight increase on Wednesday's 5pm closing price of $2,860 per tonne but a 2.7% jump from the Monday closing price of $2,792 per tonne.
