LIVE FUTURES REPORT 02/01: LME base metals start 2018 on strong footing; nickel rally continues

Base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange have started the year in a strong position with prices mostly in positive territory during morning trading on Tuesday January 2.

This comes following a positive end to the year last week where copper hit a near four-year high and most metals closed near to their 2017 year highs. The three-month nickel price rallied 3% at the close on Friday and is trading higher again this morning climbing over the $12,800 per tonne level. Zinc has also continued to move higher; it broke through its previous 2017 high to hit $3,334 per tonne this morning, the highest since 2007.
