GLOBAL NICKEL WRAP: China, US premiums diverge on differing sentiment

Nickel premiums in China continued their ascent in the week to Tuesday September 8 after demand strengthened while premiums in the United States fell after demand weakened in the region, sources told Fastmarkets.

The price of both nickel pig iron (NPI) and nickel sulfate in China continued to rise in the week to Friday September 4, while premiums for nickel plate were unmoved in a fairly thin market in the week to September 8, Fastmarkets learned.
Low supplies supported China's nickel sulfate price to a new annual high last Friday despite London Metal Exchange nickel plunging last Thursday, sources said.

Fastmarkets assessed the nickel sulfate min 21%, max 22.5%, cobalt 10ppm max, exw China price at 27,000-28,000 yuan ($3,953-4,099) per tonne last Friday, a new annual high, up by 2,500-3,000 yuan per tonne or by 11.1% from 24,500-25,000 yuan per tonne...
