Fancy Color Diamond Prices Rise Again in Q2

(IDEX Online) - Prices of fancy color diamonds kept rising in Q2, albeit at a slightly slower pace than the previous quarter.Overall they gained 0.2 per cent, the New York-based Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF) said today, compared with 0.3 per cent in Q1. No figures were produced for Q1 and Q2 of 2020 because business was too slow during the Covid pandemic to provide sufficient data, but the market is now showing signs of recovery. In Q3 of 2020 the index fell by 0.7 per cent and in Q4 by 0.1 per cent.Blues led the increase in Q2 2021, up by 0.4 per cent. Pinks rose by 0.3 per cent and yellows, which fell 0.2 per cent in Q1, were up by 0.1 per cent.One-carat fancy pinks were the highest climbers in the pink category (2.2 per cent), while 10 carat fancy pinks fell 1.1 per cent.The 1.5-ct and 2-ct blues, in all saturations, showed the highest increase (1.3 per cent), with fancy blue 1.5-cts rising by 1.7 per cent and fancy intense blues 1.5-cts up 2.2 per cent.Prices for all sizes and intensities of fancy color pinks and yellows have remained largely flat since 2014 after five years of steady growth.  Blues kept rising until 2019 and have been mostly static since then.
