EUROPE HRC: Material shortage supports domestic prices

Domestic prices for steel hot-rolled coil in Northern Europe have recovered, but were unchanged in the South, over the week to Wednesday February 17, supported by reduced availability, sources have told Fastmarkets.

Fastmarkets calculated its daily steel hot-rolled coil index, domestic, exw Northern Europe, at ?,?729.00 ($884.19) per tonne on Wednesday, up by ?,?1.50 per tonne from ?,?727.50 per tonne on February 16.
The index was also up by ?,?20.67 per tonne week on week and by ?,?13.00 per tonne month on month.
The calculation of Wednesday's index was based on achievable prices and transactions heard at ?,?720-750 per tonne ex-works.
Fastmarkets' corresponding price assessment for steel HRC, domestic, exw Southern Europe, was ?,?700-710 per tonne ex-works on February 17, unchanged week on week.
The assessment reflected achievable prices heard in the market.
