Chinese copper buyers continue to switch to high-purity scrap

Chinese copper importers have continued to favor top quality copper scrap this month to avoid the rejection risk under a new import policy of birch/cliff cargoes, which are traditionally more popular in the country, market sources said.

"We prefer buying No 1 recyclable copper material because it does not encounter any problems for custom clearance," a Ningbo-based copper importer told Fastmarkets. "But now the No 1 material is becoming expensive."
"Chinese bids for the cleanest material have increased the most, as it is a substitute for birch/cliff," an Asia-based supplier said.
