China's Daye starts construction of first major copper smelter since Covid-19 outbreak

Daye Nonferrous has maintained its mission to construct a brand new copper smelting facility despite the uncertain outlook for commodity demand and price volatility, Fastmarkets understands.

The Hubei-based company officially started the construction of a 400,000 tonne-per-year 'double flash' copper smelter on Tuesday May 12.
A ceremony was held on the day, joined by representatives of its parent company China Nonferrous Metal Mining (CNMC), as well as Hubei government officials, a company statement said.
