Car manufacturers in Brazil extend coronavirus-related output halts

The Brazilian branch of Toyota Motor Corp has decided to postpone the restart of its operations due to the Covid-19 pandemic, following other automakers either considering or already enforcing longer idle periods in the country.

Production was expected to resume at Toyota's four plants in the southeastern state of S??o Paulo on Monday April 6. After further gauging demand and availability in the supply chain, in addition to considering the health risks for employees, the return to activity was changed to April 22, it said on Wednesday April 1.
"Processes like spare parts supply for vehicles... are working as normal," the automaker said.

Volkswagen also decided on March 26 to delay the return to production in Brazil to the end of April, without providing an exact date. Plants were estimated to remain halted during...
