(IDEX Online) - Armed raiders targeted diamond couriers on a bus to Surat, India, but were thwarted when passengers locked them in the driver's cab.Three gang members traveled with the angadiyas (couriers) from Bhavnagar, in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, and asked the driver to stop at Ankleshwar. There an accomplice who'd been following in a car pointed a gun at him and ordered him not to re-start the bus.But the driver managed to flee and the bus cleaner, together with passengers, barricaded the raiders inside.The raiders tried to smash their way through the driver's glass-partitioned cab. When that failed, they fired shots through it, injuring a passenger.All four suspects fled empty-handed. Police say they planned to steal diamonds from four couriers on the bus last Tuesday."Due to resistance from the passengers, as they did not let the robbers enter inside the passenger area and shouted, the robbers realized they would not succeed and fled," an officer told Times of India.They're wanted for attempt to murder, attempt to commit robbery, wrongful restraint and criminal conspiracy.
