Russian domestic flat steel market holds steady, waiting for December prices

Prices for flat steel products in Russia's Central Federal District around Moscow were flat during the week ended Monday November 15, with market participants expecting possible price increases for December deliveries due to good demand, sources told Fastmarkets.

Traders suggested that if no newgovernment measures are implemented to cool local prices, there may be a price increase for December delivery of flat products despite shrinking demand during the low winter season. Sources expect December prices by the end of November.

When hot rolled (HR) sheet prices reached 73,000-75,000 roubles ($1,006.00-1,033.56) per tonne at the beginning of the summer, Russia imposed a 15% temporary export duty on steel sold outside the Eurasian Economic Union between August 1 and December 31, with the intention of restricting the rise in domestic steel prices....
