Lucapa Sells $5m of Rough from Lulo Mine

(IDEX Online) - Lucapa today announced it had sold a parcel of about 4,000 carats of rough from its Lulo mine, in Angola, for $5m.The Australian miner said seven high-value diamonds, including two pinks, were put aside for a later sale.It achieved an average per carat of $1,239 in the sale, together with partners Endiama and Rosas & Petalas.Earlier this month Lucapa sold a 3,617 carat parcel from its Mothae mine, in Lesotho, for $1.5m - at an average price per carat of $420.It said total sales from both mines since January were $27.5m from 23,224 carats, averaging $1,185 per carat.  Lucapa sold $40m of rough in 2020 - and looks set to surpass that figure by a good margin this year.Managing director Stephen Weatherall said investment in alluvial exploration at Lulo had paid off. Pic courtesy Lucapa shows some of the larger stones from Lulo
