5G & ELECTRONIC METALS: Growing electronics demand sends tin price to 10-year high

The year 2021 will be a turning point for network readiness and availability of 5G telecommunications after delays last year resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, sources have told Fastmarkets.

More 5G smartphones, wearables and other consumer electronics have reached the mainstream market, while the increase in remote working practices that has resulted from lockdown measures continues to underscore the need for greater bandwidth capacity, along with fast and reliable networks.
Infrastructure spending in this area has accelerated globally, too.
In 2020, the number of 5G base stations in China already exceeded 700,000, and this figure is likely to grow exponentially. According to estimates from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the total number of 5G base stations in China could reach more than 1.7 million by the end of 2021.
And by the end of December 2020, 5G commercial services had been deployed in 24 countries within the EU, plus the United Kingdom.

In the United States, all major telecoms providers - including Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile USA - launched 5G services last year and market participants await...
