5G & ELECTRONIC METALS: 5G to play key role in smartphone sales growth in 2021

This year will be a turning point for network readiness and availability of 5G after some initial delay in last year caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, sources told Fastmarkets.

More 5G smartphones, wearables and other consumer electronics have reached the mainstream market while the increase in remote working that has resulted from lockdown measures continues to underscore the need for greater bandwidth capacity, along with fast and reliable networks.
Infrastructure spending in this area has accelerated globally too.
In 2020, the number of 5G base stations in China already exceeded 700,000, and this figure is likely to grow exponentially. According to estimates from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the total number of 5G base stations in China could reach more than 1.7 million by the end of 2021.
At the same time, by the end of December 2020, 5G commercial services had been deployed in 24 countries within the European Union, plus the United Kingdom.

In the United States all major telecommunication providers including Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile USA launched 5G services last year and market participants...
